Our doors are open to you once again! Following our refurbishment, we are fully prepared to welcome you with our usual warm hospitality. We have taken your wishes on board and can now offer you a world of possibilities! We have also been working on making our hotel more sustainable. We are now, amongst other things, a natural gas-free hotel, have a thermal energy storage system that allows us to heat and cool our hotel, and have 4,000 m² of solar panels. Read on here to find out what else we have made more sustainable.

Natural gas-free hotel

The new systems at Hotel Houten are designed to be fully electric. We are installing a high-temperature heat pump in combination with a thermal energy storage system and air-to-water heat pumps. Together, these provide cooling, heating and hot water. We also have a new kitchen where cooking will be done using induction hobs.

WKO: Thermal energy storage in the ground

This enables us to create a sustainable method within the hotel for storing energy in the form of heat or cold. Using this method, we can heat and cool our building. We use the cold of winter to cool the building in summer. And the heat generated in summer is stored for use in heating the building in winter.

Energy saving

Hotel Houten reduces its energy consumption for heating by making maximum use of heat recovery. We achieve this through the use of a unique KAT system. This smart air-handling system recovers heat from the kitchen extract air. The heat released from the refrigeration and freezer units is also put to good use.

Solar panels

We have 4.000 square metres of solar panels on the roof of our car park to generate renewable energy.

Refuel for you and your car

Electric car drivers appreciate seeing (fast) charging points along busy motorways. The locations of our hotels have encouraged us to develop our own charging points: Valk Energy charging points. Whilst our guests wait, they can relax in pleasant surroundings and enjoy a bite to eat or a drink at Hotel Houten.

Go for Green Choice!

Bed linen and towels are changed daily at our hotel. Do your bit for the environment and make a GREEN choice! During your stay, please choose to skip your linen change, if possible. By skipping this change, we need to do less laundry and therefore use less electricity, water and detergent. Which, in turn, is better for the environment!

LBK Heat Exchanger and Heat Pump

The main function of a heat recovery wheel in the AHU (air handling units) is to recover heat. This means we need to use less heating, thereby saving energy. The wheel also absorbs moisture, helping to prevent the air from becoming too dry.
As the incoming air is preheated or pre-cooled, the heating or cooling system does not have to work as hard.
