Houten is located southeast of the city of Utrecht between the A12, A27 and the Lek river. Thanks to the unique bicycle structure, the bicycle in Houten is faster than the car. Houten therefore received the title 'Bicycle City of the Netherlands' in 2008.
In the meantime, the level of facilities has also been brought up to standard with a wellness center, water sports recreation, two new stations, a theater, a cinema and a substantial expansion of the shopping centers. The historical center of Houten, the Old Village, has retained its atmosphere and has a wide variety of restaurants.
